I've been reflecting this morning on one of the myriad straplines on our website: We believe that your organisation is unique and deserves a customised system.

Anyway, I've changed my mind. I don't believe that you deserve a customised system – I believe that you need a customised system. Whatever your business, the way in which you manage your data, team, processes, workflow and reporting is a key aspect of your business. If you don't get it right, you'll end up somewhere you never wanted to be.

There are lots of CRM / business systems out there that offer a 'one size fits all' solution to your business system needs, and they're attractively priced (£0-£20 per user per month). Enter your email address, set up your monthly direct debit and you're off. Job done. Get thee to the pub/restaurant/ski slope.

Fast forward a week, month or year. There are too many buttons, too much jargon that doesn't apply to your business and, worst of all, you can't get the information that's important to you. The proverbial tail has ended up wagging the dog.

Many of our clients come to us after coming to the end of a difficult journey with an off the shelf solution which offered heaps of functionality on day one but which didn't actually model the way their business works. Whatever your company does, you do it well enough to still be in business today. But the chances are that you're not business systems experts and that you just need to speak to someone that is.
