Whenever I write one of my rambling articles I'm tempted to put a question mark at the end of its title, conscious that for some people the traditional way of doing business works well. I'm a firm believer that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So if you're happy with how your business and customer information is managed, I'm delighted for you; there's probably nothing to see here.
That said, business software gets old pretty quickly these days and what was a great system five years ago may no longer deliver. I'm thinking specifically about old-school multi-user business software which runs on an old server in the corner of your office. It sort-of works; you know how to tab through the irrelevant data fields and have learned to ignore the stuff you don't use. You're frustrated that you can't get the sort of information that might help you grow, and you don't really want to think about what would happen when the server dies. But today's a busy day, and you'll get round to thinking about it some other time.
